Graduate Curriculum Requirements

Departmental Requirements

All students in the Social Psychology Program must fulfill the General Department Requirements .

Additional Social Psychology Program Curriculum Requirements

  1. General Courses:
    • Social Psychology: Introductory course in experimental social psychology. Can be waived with appropriate undergraduate coursework.
    • Proseminar in Social Psychology: One quarter course in which faculty members in the Social Psychology Program (but not in the Department of Psychology) summarize their ongoing research.
  2. Topics in Experimental Social Psychology: An ongoing seminar taught collectively by the Core Faculty each quarter
  3. An advanced course or seminar in at least four of the Areas of Emphasis listed below:
    • Self
    • Social Cognition
    • Social and Cognitive Neuroscience
    • Decision Making
    • Attitudes and Affect
    • Stereotyping and Prejudice
    • Communication and Language Processes
    • Interpersonal Relations and Group Processes
    • Political Psychology
    • Cultural Psychology
  4. Advanced Methods in Experimental Psychology
  5. Three additional courses in advanced methods and statistics
  6. Students are expected to take advanced courses and seminars in their area of specialization
