Overview

Students are admitted by application to the Department of Psychology. Applicants should specify the program or programs that are closest to their interests (the Cognition Program, the Developmental Psychology Program, the Integrative Neuroscience Program, and the Social Psychology Program).

Applicants will be considered for admission only if they have earned an accredited bachelor's degree or its equivalent. Admission depends upon the strength of the general undergraduate record, scores on the Graduate Record Examination, letters of recommendation, candidate statement and interests, and relevant laboratory or field research experience. Candidates for admission are expected to have some background in psychology as well as mathematics and statistics.

International applicants for admission to the University of Chicago must meet the English language requirements outlined at:

Interdisciplinary Programs

Students already enrolled in the Department of Linguistics in the Division of the Humanities who wish to work toward the joint Ph.D. in the Cognition Program and in Linguistics must be admitted as well to the Department of Psychology through the Division of the Social Sciences.

Joint Degree in Psychology and Business: To qualify for the joint program, a student must be admitted into either the Psychology or the Business graduate program.

Application Process

Applications will be available online in September. All applications must be submitted online on or before December 1 to be considered for the following autumn.

Applicants who are asked to interview will be invited to campus in mid-February.

If you are a prospective or admitted graduate student and would like to join a tour of campus, current graduate students from across the University lead tours Monday through Friday at 10:30 am and 2:30 pm. Tours, organized by the UChicagoGRAD, leave from Rosenwald Hall (1101 E. 58th St) and last approximately one hour. Walk-ins are welcome, but their office asks that you please register in advance using the Campus Tour form. If you have additional questions or requests, please feel free to write to a tour coordinator at gradadmissions@uchicago.edu.
