Research Interests
Hiroki is largely motivated by his desire to improve human cooperation. He wants to understand not only what facilitates human cooperation, but also what hinders it. To that end, Hiroki has begun research concerning these questions. What is the role of power (i.e., status in a social hierarchy) in human cooperation? Does power influence unfairness in perpetrators of crimes? And does it influence revenge in victims? What role does power have in the decisions of observers of a crime? What about the role of self-control in human cooperation? In what ways could self-control benefit human cooperation and in what ways could it be disadvantageous? How do our predictions about how we will feel if we succumb to our aggressive impulses or control them affect the likelihood that we will aggress? Hiroki believes that such questions are important in understanding how to improve human cooperation.
