My research looks at semantic/pragmatic development across populations and contexts, especially as it occurs outside of the interaction frames most frequently represented in research --- this includes work showing that Tseltal Mayan and U.S. children learn from other-directed language in their environments (not just the tailored language caregivers that direct to them), and work tracing how deaf children and their hearing parents understand one another, despite not sharing a language.
