Nina is a post-doctoral scholar in the Goldin-Meadow lab, working on a project investigating how adults understand and use statistical concepts and the potential role of gestures in adult learning.

She received her Ph.D. in Linguistics and Anthropogeny at UCSD. She studied the effects of early language deprivation on the acquisition of number signs and plural marking. She also focused on the number systems in sign languages in their typological and processing aspects.

Nina is interested in the acquisition of numbers and mathematical concepts by children and adults, the role that language (signed or spoken) and gesture play in this process, and the ways of integrating research with teaching practices to enhance learning opportunities.
