Attention dynamics in the mind and brain
Attention is critical in daily life yet is inherently dynamic, fluctuating across seconds, waning across minutes, and developing across the lifespan. I will show that patterns of brain activity can reliably predict people's overall attentional abilities and their level of focus from one moment and even one year to the next. However, I will argue that the real value of these brain-based models is not prediction itself but what they reveal about when, why, and how attention fails and interacts with the rest of the mind and the body.
